First, I screamed, then I prophesied.
First, I screamed, then I prophesied.

Out for a run and nearly stepped on this bugger. Its head appeared to have been crushed, but its body was still writhing. I prayed mercy over it, I hate to see anything suffer, and while prophetically symbolic, a lone snake isn’t our true enemy.

A verse came to mind, Genesis 3:15: He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.

This is known as the protoevangelium, the first gospel prophecy. Spoken by God to the serpent in Eden, it foretold Christ’s ultimate victory over Satan. Jesus would be wounded (His heel bruised on the cross), but the serpent’s head (its authority, power, and dominion) would be crushed.

Saints, don’t forget this promise: Psalm 91:13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

The snake’s body may have moved, but it had no power. The enemy has been crushed, and even when he twitches, you walk in the power and protection of the One who already has the victory.
