It's Time to Flip Some Tables

Jesus flipped the tables in Matthew 21 because they were selling in the Court of the Gentiles, the only place where outsiders (non-Jews) could come and seek God. They filled it with noise, greed, and distractions effectively turning a sacred space into a marketplace, keeping people from worshiping.

That’s why Jesus quoted Isaiah 56:7 “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations” in Matthew 21:13, “It is written,” he said to them, “’My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”

The Temple was meant to be a place of simple, open connection with God, but they turned it into a system that kept people out. Jesus didn’t flip the tables out of human anger, His action was a righteous response to injustice.

When systems, churches, or cultures try to overcomplicate the simplicity of Christ by trading prayer and worship for noise and profit, we have to flip those tables. We fight for those who are being shut out, and we make space for real connection with God. It’s time to disrupt the things that stand in the way of the true worship for all nations, in Spirit and Truth.
